Masters Basketball Training

As a masters basketball player, you’ll be fully aware that great basketball players need to work on their body as much as their game. I’m here to help you raise your game through sports specific strength and fitness training for basketball.

When it comes to your goals of being physically resilient for the sport of basketball, you need a coach who truly understands the game. This is where I can help.

As a Level 4 Advanced Personal Trainer certified in Sports-Specific Training, with more than two decades experience in helping people with their fitness goals, I help people turn the clock back on their bodies and feel physically younger. My clients typically say they feel fitter than they have in decades and have less joint pain. Additionally, I have been coaching basketball for over two decades and have played the game at a high level for many years myself.

As a mature athlete, you need a training programme that builds physical resilience while respecting your increased need for recovery time and the balance of daily life. My training programs are fully personalised and progressed as you master each element, yet designed to complement the training you do on-court without overstressing your body.

How Strength & Fitness Training Will Help You On The Basketball Court:

-Improved strength for absorbing contact, setting screens, boxing out, and holding off your defender in the post.

-Strong and balanced legs for running, jumping, maintaining your defensive stance, and the energy to play hard for the whole game.

-Enhanced core stability so you can stay on balance when you take contact while driving to the hoop, and effectively transfer power from the lower body to the upper body in long range shooting.

-Reduce injury risk by enhancing joint stability, muscle balance, and strength of muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones.

-Enhance your stamina and energy systems so that you have the energy to keep performing your skills consistently throughout the game.

-Improve your freedom of movement and enhance circulation for recovery.

What’s Different About My Approach?

  • My whole approach to all aspects of fitness training is heavily research based.

  • My philosophy around training is to make everything as time efficient as possible-enabling you to achieve as much as possible with the minimum time commitment, so you can balance your training with recovery and your other obligations.

  • I won’t recommend high impact training techniques that will be stressful on your body when we can achieve the same result through lower impact activities.

  • You’ll be treated as an individual and involved in the decision making process.

“Steve has an encyclopaedic knowledge of how the human body works and has the skill to ensure you improve the areas you want. His sessions with me have improved my own knowledge about how muscles interact with each other and my basketball skills have improved as a direct result of the drills I’ve learned.”

Other Useful Stuff To Know:

  • My training is delivered through my Virtual Fitness Coaching Service, which allows me to provide higher levels of service, coaching and support for my clients, and to plan, and review their whole training week. This isn’t just about workouts and exercises. My clients have me available to them five days a week to answer questions, support them, and make adjustments for them when life gets busy or schedules change. This is especially useful for my sports specific clients who have to balance multiple training elements while staying in balance with the rest of their life.

  • Although I’m based in Reading, West Berkshire, in England, location is not a barrier to access my coaching services. I currently have clients in various areas of the country, and even as far afield as Australia.
